About Zoram Medical College, Mizoram

Zoram Medical College (ZMC) [erstwhile MIMER] was established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals.

On 19th Feb. 2014 Dr Vishwas Mehta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, gave approval for opening of new Medical College at State Referral Hospital Falkawn and a MoU signed between Government of India and Government of Mizoram on the 16th May 2014 with a total project cost of Rs. 189 lakhs. A provisional Consent of Affiliation was given by Mizoram University on the 7th January, 2015.

HSCC (India) Limited was accepted as the consultancy agency on the 25th June 2015. MIMER has been granted the Letter of Permission (LoP) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India vide letter no No.U.12012/37/2018-M E-1 [FTS No. 3154165 Dt. 25/5/18 for intake capacity of 100 students for 1st MBBS Academic session 2018-2019.

The name of the college MIMER was changed to Zoram Medical College (ZMC) as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on the 26th April, 2019.

Facilities / Infrastructure in Zoram Medical College, Mizoram

Central Library

ZMC Central Library is located in the second floor of the administrative building with ample space for reading. The entire Library is under Air Condition and with a power back-up for 24 into 7 to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Library housekeeping operation is managed by LibSYS Ltd. 7 accompanied with KSmart-RFID Library Security Gate, Staff Station + Biometric Reader and PAD antenna.

Hostel

Zoram Medical College has approximately 300 students residing in Hostels within the campus. This number is expected to rise to 500-600 at full recognition. General rules and regulation governing hostel administration are outlined for uniform and transparent handling of the various issues related with the hostel sector. This will serve as basic framework for administration of the hostels and inmates at Zoram Medical College Hostels.

The State Referral Hospital

Construction work on the State Referral Hospital commenced in 1999 after funds were received from the Planning Commission, Government of India following approval of Rs. 40 crore for the proposal by the then Prime Minister, Mr. H. D. Deve Gowda in 1996.

The State Referral Hospital, Falkawn (SRHF) had a humble beginning when it started functioning as a 50 bedded hospital in the Administrative Building from 21st July 2005, with just a handful of staff. Subsequently, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr.  commissioned 150 beds on 10th Dec 2012 with provision of the following services–

  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Surgery
  • Dental Surgery
  • Medicine – On rotation from Civil Hospital, Aizawl
  • Paediatrics- On rotation from Civil Hospital, Aizawl

Dr. Jane R. Ralte joined as the first Deputy Medical Superintendent in October 2013. Service provided was then scaled up in 10th February 2015 with transfer of 8 Specialist Doctors to the hospital. Dr. Lalhmuchhuaka joined as the first Medical Superintendent in February, 2016. State Referral Hospital, Falkawn was notified as a 300 bedded hospital by the Govt. of Mizoram on 2nd February 2016. At present, the hospital is functioning as a 300 bedded hospital to be upgraded to 500 beds within 4 years and the following specialities are available-

Eligibility & Admission Process for Zoram Medical College, Mizoram

Eligibility MBBS

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)

– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)

Admission Process
