On July 19, 2005, the President of Uzbekistan created the Urgench Branch of Tashkent Medical Academy, Uzbekistan. With a total enrollment capacity of 4662 students, the academy originally formed faculty including general medicine, pedagogy, and nursing. Approximately 765 postgraduates and 205 physicians are trained at the institute.
