Tirunelveli Medical College (TVMC) is a government run postgraduate research institute in southern India, wholly owned and administered by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, State Government of Tamil Nadu. We are ranked among the top 50 medical institutes in India under the NIRF Ranking 2021 of the Govt of India, recognized by the National Medical Commission of India (medical programs), Nursing Council of India (nursing programs) and affiliated to the Tamilnadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. We have a bright history of 56 years of medical education, with 38 Teaching Departments, 29 postgraduate courses, 3250 student footfalls and 364 Faculty.

Library:

The Central Medical Library is an academic monolith spread over 4000sqm on two floors, with “Reading Cocoons” – Guyton’s Library (Basic Medical Sciences), Osler’s Library (General Medicine and Medical Specialties), Lister’s Library (General Surgery and Surgical Specialties), and Boyd’s Library (Research, Education Technologies, Social Sciences and Literature), each with Books, Journals, and Computers having Internet Facility.

The library has a team of well trained staff who help the students in searching for books and journals. The students also have a separate space for carrying their own study material, which is open beyond library hours. The Library houses 29000 books, 104 national and international hard copy journals, 275 e-journals and 20years of back volumes. The students have access to all of these inside the reading areas. The Library also has a syndicate space for faculty where faculty reading and discussions happen.

Residential Hostels:
The Residential Hostels in the campus, located in four clusters with 17 blocks in all, and provides accommodation for 1500+ students in various medical and nursing disciplines. The allied health science disciplines are currently not provided campus accommodations. The campus hostels located in sprawling campuses as gated communities, of 7 undergrad hostel blocks (4 for ladies and 3 for men), 2 interns hostel blocks, 4 resident doctors hostel blocks (2 for ladies and 2 for men) and a nursing student hostel block. The men and ladies hostels have standalone modern cafeteria with vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines.

The campus cafeteria certified under the FSSAI “Eat Right Campus Program” of the Government of India and have independent hygiene certificates -which is a unique recognition for the campus and possibly the first among the state government medical school campuses. The campuses guided by a dedicated administrative team of senior faculty under the leadership of the Chief Warden – Administration. Hostel Admissions are managed by the hostel office located in the college administrative block, and rooms allocated on a first come first basis.

Fine Arts Club:

The campus has some of the finest artists, painters, dramatists, singers, dancers, keyboard players and orchestra teams. Ecstacy is one event the faculty wait for each year and COVID has played a big spoil sport

Tirunelveli Medical College General Hospital in service since the last 62 years

TVMCH started with 200 beds in one building, is now an aggregation of 1717 beds spread over 57 wards in 17 building complexes spread over 128 acres of land. We serve 1236541 (2020) Out Patients and 88098 (2020) Indoor admission each year across 30 clinical departments with an average bed occupancy rate of 98.3%. The present hospital has some of the best clinical assets and is a leader in undergraduate clinical training.
This Hospital is a state run free hospital, that has a unique distinction of serving both the low and mid income populations and has a segment of semi-affluent populations who come for specific services like accident and emergency recovery, orthopedics surgeries etc.

Tirunelveli Medical College Superspeciality Hospital was dedicated to patient service in 2018

The Hospital is a 7 floor structure with 14 wards and 4 intensive care units serving patients in 8 clinical departments which was inaugurated by the Honourable Prime Minister of India on 27th January 2018 with 330beds. This hospital has some of the best technologies and facilities, similar to that available in corporate sector hospitals and national institutes. This hospital serves 900-1000 out patients on all days and has an average bed occupancy of 99.2%

Admission Process

Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.
