About Sri Devaraj URS Medical College, Kolar

Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, a constituent college of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research under the aegis of Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust for Backward Classes, Kolar, recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The college and the University office located at Tamaka village, Kolar and spread over almost 100 acres of lush green campus. This campus is 75K.M. away from Bangaluru as well as the Bangaluru International Airport. The campus has several buildings to accommodate the administrative, teaching/training, hospital, hostel facilities of The University and the Medical College with a total build up area of 85,000 sq. metres.

The college conducts medical courses at Under Graduate (MBBS), Post Graduate (MD, MS) and Post Graduate Diploma levels and plans to start doctoral programmes in Biochemistry, Microbiology and fellowship programme in Head and Neck Onco- Surgery. The University has also decided to design a revised curriculum for MBBS course within the regulations as prescribed by the Medical Council of India. Hostel 

The student’s hostel is part of Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, a constituent institution of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research (SDUAHER) provide accommodation to the students wishing to reside in the hostels.
Hostels are independent units with respect to its internal administration under the overall supervision of the council of Wardens & Hostel Management. The hostels situated within the campus and have separate hostel office and mess within the hostel premises.

1. There are 3 Kitchens, one in Under Graduate Men’s Hostel, one in Undergraduate Women’s Hostel & other in Post Graduate Men’s Hostel with dining hall attached
2. The general menu for each month decided by the hostility representatives selected by the hostel committee.
3. The special menu introduced & served on all important festivals.
4. The food hygiene is well maintained, the food handlers provided with aprons, head caps, hand gloves etc.
5. The Mess employees are subjected to medical examination & compulsory deworming tablets given once in 6 months.
6. The other facilities include RO-UV Plant for drinking & cooking purposes, reading rooms, Recreation Hall with TV facility, Gym, Newspaper facility, Wi-Fi facility & Visitor’s lounge.

The University Library is a unique information resource centre of the Academy it provides all the aspects subjects of Health Science, allied health and basic sciences. It spread over 3642 Sq. metres and accommodate 700 users at a time. It has state-of-the-art, Wi-Fi facilities to browse and access the resources

Sports

The sports department was officially established in the year 1995 with the sports Committee. The department has been active in the conduct of various sporting activities of this institution. It has taken long strides and been a success at various levels.The department has established a Volleyball court, Basketball court, Two Tennis courts &Throwball court with permanent floodlit in addition to the outdoor arena viz. Football/Athletic ground. The department has an indoor Sports complex with Badminton Court, Two Table Tennis Tables, and Multigym facilities.

The sports department along with institutions conducts Annual Sports Meet, Selection Trials, Training programs of various sporting events. The sports department has been awarding “The Best Outgoing Sports Man & Women” every year for an outgoing batch in honouring with Pure Gold Medal with the trophy.

Skill Lab

A Clinician/Health care provider is defined by skill sets he/she possess. The emphasis on skill acquisition is the one of the fundamental requirements in providing competency based medical education to health sciences students, in fact it is the soul of competency-based curriculum around the world. Clinical skills and simulation training is an essential link between medical student training and clinical experience and has proven to be an effective tool for assessing technical skills, critical thinking and team behaviour and is termed as Simulation Based Education (SBE).

The SDUAHER Centre for Clinical Skills Simulation has been established to provide SBE to learners in obtaining technical skills and also non-technical skills such as leadership, team-work, communication, situational awareness, decision making and awareness of personal limitations.

R.L. Jalappa Hospital and Research Centre is a Teaching Hospital attached to Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, which is the Constituent Institution of Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research. The hospital is situated at Tamaka village, along the national highway, and is 75 km from the state capital, Bengaluru, and 5 km from Kolar city.

The hospital was started in the year 1994 as a primary health care service provider in less than a year full-fledged outpatient & Inpatient services were started. The R.L. Jalappa Hospital and Research Centre provides secondary and tertiary level health care to the rural and urban population of the Kolar district and also to the denizens from the bordering areas of the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
