About S. Nijalingappa Medical College & HSK Hospital & Research Centre, Bagalkot

To crown its endeavour the Sangha started Hanagal Sri Kumareshwar hospital in 2000. Two years later Medical College started in the old campus (in 2002) with the affiliation of RGUHS & MCI. The foundation stone for medical college and hospital laid and the construction activity followed immediately in full swing over an area of 114 acres…. and in over just 2 years the bare mountain at Navanagar witnessed a new monument rising up…. which made everyone hold their breaths with awe and delight…. It stands apart and has become the landmark of Bagalkot with its majestic building and a beautiful campus.

The hospital has named after Late His Holiness Shri Kumara Swamiji of Hanagal who convened the first Veerashaiva Mahasabhe which led to the establishment of Veera Shaiva Vidya Vardhaka Sangha in Karnataka.

The college has named after Shri S. Nijalingappa, for granting 250 acres of land on lease for a period of 30 years when he was the chief minister of Karnataka…… which was later regularised and granted by Late Shri J. H. Patel when he was the Chief Minister. Late Dr. S. J. Nagalotimath, the B.C. Roy awardee of international fame was appointed as the first medical director and assigned the task of planning and establishing the medical college…. Dr. T.M. Chandrashekhar, the first and the most beloved principal, now dean of SNMC has contributed immensely. Both Dr. S. J. Nagalotimath and Dr. T. M. Chandrashekhar have given a very good beginning to SNMC and hospital.

Shri Siddanna Shettar, Chairman, Governing Council of Medical, Dental and Nursing college has been extending his full support to ensure that the best facilities and best teaching faculty made available to the students and people alike…. The creation and execution of the SNMC Library was inspired by ideas like: acquisition of relevant knowledge, intellectual exploration and flights into the limitless skies of research. As on today this library offers to any aspiration in the field, a pool of 20106 books that are meticulously chosen for their contents; added to this are 2044 back volumes of relevant fields and this unit has been subscribing to as many as 114 well known national and international journals. Almost all the principal medical branches are covered by these reading materials.

Hanagal Shree Kumareshwar Hospital and Research

Hanagal Shree Kumareshwar Hospital and Research Centre was established in 2000 in the old campus of B.V.V. Sangha in Bagalkot. At inception it had 300 beds catering the health services to people of Bagalkot and surrounding areas and has grown into an institute of recognition.

The Hospital was christened as Hanagal Shree Kumareshwar Hospital & Research Centre after the great.  Saint his holiness Shree Shree Shree Kumara Swamiji of Hanagal, who himself was a pioneer in treating the ill with herbal medicine, moreover he was also one of the pioneers who revolutionized the concept of Sangha/Trust in starting Educational Institutions in the backward areas for spreading Quality Education in all fields.

The Hospital and the Medical College were shifted to the new campus in 2004; this campus is spread over an specious area of 114 acres of land situated between the new (Navanagar) and the old city of Bagalkot on an hillock.
