About Nilratan Sircar Medical College

In 1864 Sealdah Market Building (at present Central Hall) was converted to Sealdah Municipal Hospital. On 1st Dec. 1873 the Sealdah Medical School was born out of the Sealdah Municipal Hospital. In 1884 it was named as Campbell Medical School and later on in July 1948 upgraded as Campbell Medical College. On 19th Aug. 1950 the College was renamed as Nilratan Sircar Medical College after the name of the great freedom fighter and alumni of this institution.

Facilities / Infrastructure in Nilratan Sircar Medical College

Central Library

The Central Library came into existence around 1950 in the erstwhile Infectious Disease Word and after many location changes finally relocated to its current location in the 3rd floor of College Academy Building in the year 1990. Since the establishment it has been a major source of reference for the students and Faculties of this Medical College.

The reading rooms and the seating capacity of the library have been increased drastically as per the guideline of MCI for 250 UG intake per year. The centrally air-conditioned reading area of the students has been separated into two segments with 250 seating capacity each. Separate reading rooms for Faculty members, Post Graduate and Paramedical students complements the rich learning experience. Additionally, Central Library has well equipped computer lab with internet facility to assist in studying of students and faculties. It has enormous collection of books, various national and international journals with its current and back volumes, dissertation work of post graduate degree.

Hostel

NRS Medical College has nine hostels for UG/PG students. One each for UG Boys and Girls with 600 plus and 200 plus accommodation respectively. Others are of smaller capacity.

The campus is in close proximity of Sealdah Railway Station. Being located in the central Kolkata area, it can be accessed from all directions by road and by Metro Railway services as well. Esplanade and Central Stations of Metro Railway are the nearest ones and are very well connected by bus services. It is also very well connected with Howrah Station through regular bus services. Nearest Airport is Netaji Subhas International Airport (CCU) situated at a distance of about 15 Kms. General Emergency is manned by team of doctors – Senior Medical Officers, Junior Residents, Interns. Services of Senior Residents from Speciality and Super speciality Disciplines are also available round the clock on demand basis. Basic Laboratory services like Clinical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Cardiac Biomarker, ECG, Digital Radiography, CT scan, Ultrasonography etc are available in the Emergency. Emergency Operation theatre facility for General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery as well as Obstetrics/Gynaecological and Paediatric Surgical cases are available at N R S Medical College & Hospital.

Eligibility & Admission Process for Nilratan Sircar Medical College

Eligibility MBBS

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)

– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)
