Established in 1999, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) became a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University) in 2009. The Institution named after its founder, the visionary, Late Justice K S Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

The Institution has made rapid progress towards recognized as a medical school with high academic standards, delivering quality health care with an emphasis on promoting social responsibility in its students. Library

The K S Hegde Medical Academy has a well-stocked library with a floor area of 2512 sq. meter. The library is air-conditioned, well protected with fire alarm and CCTV surveillance. It can comfortably accommodate more than 350 users at a time. Its collections include printed books, e-books, back volumes, WHO publications and CDs/DVDs including MEDLINE on CD-ROM and other resources. The central library subscribes to National and International journals in print and e-journals. It is the member of the HELINET consortium and DELNET also. The library has subscription to UpToDate: Evidence Based Medical decision support service resource. The central library is using the Easily software for library Automation.

Hostel & Mess

The mess advance collected will be adjusted against the monthly mess charges and any shortfall will have to made good by the students. The vegetarian mess run on a cost sharing basis. Based on the suggestions of the boarders, the mess committee will decide upon the menu. catering is not permitted. Hostellers can pre-book their favorite non-vegetarian dishes apart from their regular vegetarian menu through the “Paaka-shale” app.

Facilities: The hostellers provided with a cot, cupboard, study table and chair. Every hostel has solar water heaters, WiFi facility, common telephone, TV room, reading room, visitors lounge, water coolers, generators, 24×7 security and surveillance cameras. AC rooms are available in some of the hostels. The hostels also have facilities for indoor and outdoor games.

Conveyance

A fleet of buses and vans are maintained in the campus to provide transport facilities to the students and staff, free of cost.

Gymnasium

The air-conditioned multi-Gymnasium housed in a 5500 sq. ft building kept open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the benefit of students and hostellers. The services of 3 professionally trained instructors are available. Equipment’s consist of Treadmills, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, rowing machines, and a full-fledged multi-gym.

Sports

The sports facilities in the campus consist of an athletic turf track of 400 mtrs, Football ground, Cricket pitch, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton courts. The campus has facilities for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom.

Literary Forum

Kshema Literary Forum found with an intention to excavate the creativity and love for language within the students and provide them a unique platform for its expression.
For all those who know “pen is mightier than sword” this is their arena. We believe we were able to foster their hidden talents and bring out the roaring ideas within them into the lime-light to a pretty good extend. Some of the most successful and crowd-pulling events conducted under the literary Forum. We believe that the events had given the students an opportunity to register their opinions on various topics that need to discussed and dissect it in different perspectives.

PG VS UG DEBATE

A PG VS UG debate competition conducted on 31st January. The participants were Dr. Arun, Dr Neela, Dr. Vineeth from the PG team and Nazneen, Arya and Harmanjot Kaur from the UG team. They debated on the motion ” should India go befikre”. A fire-setting discussion was done on ‘should living together relationships supported in Indian scenario’. It was truly a platform for expressing the burning ideas hidden within the medicos entangled in the routine academics and clinical postings. The UG team emerged to be the winners at the end of the magnificent word war. It was infact an enthralling experience for the participants as well as the audience.

Justice K S Hegde Charitable hospital

Justice K S Hegde Charitable hospital, is a 1000 bedded teaching hospital for the constituent institutions of NITTE (deemed to be University) with 12 broad specialities and 15 super specialities. Situated at Deralakatte, about 16kms from the heart of the city of Mangaluru, the hospital is a calm and ideal place for ailing patients to get the best of the treatment from our experienced and skilled professionals. The hospital houses a dedicated centre for treatment of cancer and neurological disorders. With a footfall of over 3 lakh outpatients and 30000 inpatients every year, the hospital is catering to the people of DK and adjoining districts of Karnataka and Kerala.

The hospital stands out with its speciality services which include IVF lab, level-1 sleep lab, comprehensive tissue bank, burns care unit and a dedicated children’s ICU complex. The Central laboratory and the Virology laboratory of the hospital is NABL accredited.

The hospital underwent the final assessment of NABH and is in the process of getting accredited. Hospital has also introduced PACS and Electronic medical records as an initiative to go green. Hospital takes pride as one of the first hospitals in the district to start telemedicine services, medicine delivery services during the COVID pandemic. Admission Process

Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.
