About Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital

Jhargram government medical college is one of those six new medical colleges which comprises of about 44.39 acres of land and targets to admit 100 students for the MBBS training at present. The proposed New Medical College with 100 Admission MBBS seats annually will be located at Jhargram at District Jhargram. It will be regulated by the Directorate of Medical Education, Government of West Bengal.

The existing district hospital will be upgraded in terms of space, facilities, equipment’s and other requirements as detailed in the “Minimum Requirements for Annual M.B.B.S. Admissions Regulations, 2020”. The existing district hospital is 600 bedded facilities operating from last few decades with annual patient load of 131310 in patients and 312000 outpatients that will be increased in graded manner with advent of the medical college and hospital. With the addition of this new medical college, it is aimed at improving the doctor-patient ratio in the state, reducing the state’s disease burden and to provide more quality medical services at the tertiary care level to the population of Jhargram and its surrounding area.

Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital

The Journey of Jhargram government hospital started from a small dispensary. In 1924 this hospital started its journey as “Chandicharan Datayabya Chikitsalaya” after the memory of Raja Chandi Charan Malladev of Jhargram Royal Family. Later in the year of 1956 it was converted into a full-fledged Sub-Divisional Hospital.

In 2012, this hospital got the status of a “District Hospital” as the State Government declared Jhargram sub division as ‘Jhargram Health District’.

On 11th February 2016, Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Jhargram Super Specialty hospital. Subsequently existing District Hospital was merged with the Super Specialty Hospital. Jhargram Government Medical College is declared as a collaborative effort of State and Central government upng Phase-II of Centrally Sponsored Scheme for ‘Establishment of new Medical Colleges attached with existing District/Referral Hospitals’.

Eligibility & Admission Process for Jhargram Government Medical College & Hospital

Eligibility MBBS

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)

– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)

Admission Process

Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.

 Selection Procedure:

First, candidates have to appear in the NEET entrance exam to get admission. After that the result will be announced along with ranks secured by the candidates. Qualified candidates will be able to participate in the counselling process as per their performance in the entrance exam. During the counselling procedure, candidates will be required to choose the colleges where they are looking for admission. The seats will be allotted to the candidates after document verification. As per the rank obtained, options filled and seat availability, the seats will be allotted to the candidates. After seat allotment procedure, candidates will have to reach the allotted college/university/institution to complete admission formalities.
