About Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Puducherry
INDIRA GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE & RESEARCH INSTITUTE INSTITUTE has been established by the Government of Puducherry Institution functioning under Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Medical College Society and is administered by a duly constituted Governing Body headed by Chief Secretary, Government of Puducherry as the Chairman and the Secretary (Health) as the Vice Chairman.
We strive for a competency based education employing a task related and problem solving approach, and in the learning setting of the community. The obvious advantage of such a learning strategy relates to experiential recognition of wide range of problems that are prevalent in a community, developing a set of possible options for intervention, and demonstrating resolution of one or more of such problems through realistic, cost- effective solutions.
We resolve to practice evidence based medicine. Our motto is to make the hospital environment safe to our patients and their kin. The ultimate objective of health service at our institute is improvement of quality of life of the people through the services and performance focused on health related team tasks.

College building for 150 students per year is planned with most advanced laboratory equipment’s and in a very beautiful setting for the future doctors of this country. All the Departments are well equipped with Instruments, Museum, Library books for Medical Education etc as per the MCI standards.

We have well trained faculties with excellent research and academic background. Some of our faculties are specially trained at NTTC JIPMER and Regional FAIMER Institutes in various pedagogy techniques.
Besides regular learning in the classrooms and laboratories, students are also taken to the community to carry out various field research activities, problem-oriented and community-based training of public health, various other field visits. Thus, active involvement of students duringfield visits presents an opportunity for the quick orientation of students to common public health problems.

Hospital Block:
State of the art Hospital building with 750 beds initially (5 stories) over 5.09 lakh square feet built up area and later to be increased to 1000 beds (8 storeyes)is being planned in the future. 15 Operation Theatres (O.Ts) with state of the art ICUs are a part of the initial stage. 18 Specialty Operation Theatres for six super-specialty departments are to come up in the future.
Out-patient Department:
Routine Care is being offered to patients from in and around Pondicherry free of charge in various Clinical Departments between 8:00 AM & 12:00 PM. In the near future we plan to establish special clinics in all the Departments like hypertension clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Epilepsy Clinic, Rheumatology Clinic, IEC Clinic, Asthma Clinic, COPD Clinic, Smoking Cessation Clinic, Well baby Clinic, Nutrition Clinic, Cardiac Clinic, Trans Gender Clinic, Geriatric Clinic, Stroke Clinic, A.R.T. Centre, Tumour Clinic, P.M.R.H.Centre etc.

Eligibility & Admission Process for Indira Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute, Puducherry
Eligibility MBBS
– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)
– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)
Admission Process
Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.
