In 1901, the Chittagong General Hospital began operating on the hilltop of downtown Anderkilla, marking the dawn of institutionalized modern medical practice in the region. At its inception, Chattogram Medical College had just three academic departments: Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry, staffed by 26 faculty members. It welcomed its first batch of 76 students.
