All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar is one of the apex healthcare Institutes established by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Under this scheme six new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established at Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur and Rishikesh apart from the one at New Delhi.

In his Independence Day Speech on August 15, 2003, then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajapayee announced opening up of 6 AIIMS Hospitals at Patna, Raipur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur and Rishikesh under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) launched for up gradation of Medicare facilities in underserved areas of the country besides providing quality medical education in super-specialty disciplines in these areas.
The foundation stone of this institute in Bhubaneswar was laid by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajapayee on July 15, 2003.All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar was established as autonomous institution and institute of National importance through the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Ordinance passed on 16th July, 2012.

Central Library
Central Library started functioning since 3rd October 2012 under the Chairmanship of Dr. Pranati Nanda, Additional Prof. Department of Physiology whose painstaking effort saw the library grow by leaps and bounds. Then the library was headed by Prof. (Dr.) A. K. Praharaj, HOD, Department of Microbiology from 1st May 2014 to 31st August 2018.
The library caters to all the faculty members, PG student, MBBS as well as B. Sc. Nursing Student and paramedical courses like OT & AT, Radio Therapy and Medical laboratory. We have 60 functional computers at present with limited Wi-Fi facility. From January 2021 web tool Knimbus is added for accessing e-resources inside as well as outside the campus through the mobile app (library). Library is automated with Koha integrated library management software and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system is implemented for management.

– Pass with minimum 50 % marks in Intermediate (Bi.P.C)
– Must Qualify in NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test)
Admission Process
Admission to the MBBS programme is based on candidates’ performance in NEET. Once the NEET results are declared, then the eligible candidates are called for counselling process.
